Care products for bags – how to choose for your Mulberry

A Mulberry bag is made to accompany you through everyday life. When it is used often, care and storage help look after the leather you chose it for. The right care can help keep the material looking its best, but it is important that the care product matches the bag’s surface. At Viclara you will find, among other things, Collonil Supreme Creme Neutral and Collonil Waterstop for the materials and uses the products are intended for.

Before choosing a care product, you should check whether the bag is made from smooth leather, embossed leather, suede, Scotchgrain or another material. Bags from the same brand can have different care instructions, even if they are the same color or belong to the same model series.

Leather cream and protection spray

A leather cream is designed for caring for specific leather surfaces, while a protection spray is developed for a protective treatment of suitable materials. The products therefore serve different purposes, and not all bags need both.

Collonil Supreme Creme Neutral does not contain an added matching color. Even a neutral cream can affect the surface’s shine or appearance. Always follow the product instructions, and first test on a small, hidden area if the material allows it.

Collonil Waterstop can be used as a protection spray on materials that are suitable for the treatment. Protection spray does not make the bag waterproof and does not automatically protect against all stains or weather conditions. If the bag gets wet, it should dry slowly away from radiators and direct heat.

Leather comes in several finishes

Smooth leather, grained leather and suede do not necessarily need to be treated in the same way. Scotchgrain has a textured surface and may have leather details. Care for the Scotchgrain material itself and the leather edges may therefore differ.

Storage is also part of care

If you have a Mulberry Bayswater, a light support can help it keep its shape during storage. On a Mulberry Lily, it is also a good habit to place the chain strap so it is not pressed into the leather.

A bag has good conditions when it is stored dry and without being squeezed together with other bags. Use a dust bag if one is included, and avoid prolonged direct sunlight. A light support inside can help the bag retain its shape, but the bag should not be filled so much that the leather is stretched.

Keep makeup, bottles and creams closed, and place them in a separate pouch if needed. Small everyday habits can reduce the risk of spills and marks on both the lining and the surface.

Care is not repair

A cream or spray cannot repair all stains, scratches or damage. If there is a problem, it is better to inspect the material first than to use several different products on top of one another.
